Relstation: A Privacy Chair Inspired by Nature

Mitra Mohebbi's Award-Winning Design Marries Bionic Science and Ergonomics

The design concept of Relstation was inspired by the woodlouse, a hard-shelled creature known for its defensive mechanism and flexibility. This creature's ability to adapt its position according to its environment is reflected in the design of the Relstation chair, which allows users to adjust their position based on their surroundings.

Relstation is more than just a chair; it's a relaxation station. The name itself is a combination of the words 'relax' and 'station'. The chair's unique properties include a curved structure that not only adds to its aesthetic appeal but also ensures the efficient use of materials. Its shell-like structure ensures uniform distribution of internal forces, while its lightweight and robust material adds to its durability.

The chair features two shells - an inner shell made of soft and comfortable sponge, and an outer shell composed of nine pieces. The outer shell pieces are connected to each other with strong internal connections, and the ninth piece can move to create a personal space. This design allows the user to stretch their feet and rest in a comfortable position.

Relstation is not just a product of innovative design, but also of meticulous research and technical expertise. The design team, which included Mitra Mohebbi, Fatemeh Taghavi, and Mahsa Mohebbi, faced the challenge of choosing a suitable mechanism for the sofa mode change. With the help of experienced mechanical engineers and industrial design masters, they were able to overcome this challenge.

Relstation is a testament to the power of design in enhancing personal comfort and lifestyle. Its award-winning design, which combines the principles of bionic science and ergonomics, offers a private and comfortable space for users to distance themselves from today's busy life and enjoy a moment of tranquility.

The design was realized from January to April 2021 in Iran and has since been recognized with the prestigious Silver A' Furniture Design Award. This accolade is awarded to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that exhibit outstanding expertise and innovation. It is a fitting recognition for a design that brings peace and comfort, inspired by nature.
